Tomorrow 24th December, marks the start of our official Government X mas holidays and for many the start of New Year festivities. This is the time of year that we take time off work to be with family, take stock of the passing year, celebrate achievements, and make plans for the coming year.
As we celebrate this years World AIDS day with the National Theme “Accelerating Interventions to End AIDS by 2030”, UVRI working with our partners continues to make significant contributions.
Women are underrepresented in academic science careers, including health research. In sub-Saharan Africa, the proportion of women scientists is even smaller, with huge disparities between men and women in higher positions in science and education achievements.

Researchers in Uganda have made significant strides in vaccine development using a novel adenovector backbone that was previously developed during the COVID-19 pandemic, using funds from the government of Uganda. The developed backbone is an open system that can be used in the development of other vaccines for infectious diseases.
