2 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed out of 1,296 samples tested at Uganda Virus Research Institute on 22nd April 2020.

The new cases are a 43-year-old male Tanzanian truck driver who is a contact to a previously confirmed case and a 35-year-old male Tanzanian truck driver who arrived from Tanzania at Mutukula border from Dar Es Salaam.

One of the cases was out of 550 samples from the community and quarantine while one case was from the 746 samples from the truck drivers at border points of entry.

According to the Ministry of Health press statement, the 43-year-old was a contact of the Tanzanian truck driver who tested positive on the 17th April 2020 as they had traveled in the same vehicle.

The Director General of Health Services, Dr Henry Mwebesa said because of his contact with the confirmed case, the Ministry of Health had to quarantine him at Mulago and tests carried out were positive for COVID-19.
