The annual scientific conference and International Nurses Day celebration for this year were hosted by the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Union on May 16th-17th, 2024, in Rukungiri district, Western Uganda. The theme for this year's event was "Our Nurses, Our Future: The Economic Power of Care."
The conference featured a scientific exhibition where nurses and midwives presented their abstracts. The venue for the conference was the Immaculate Heart Girls School, Nyakibale. Following the exhibition, a graduation ceremony was held for critical care nurses from the Health Carousel Foundation.
The celebration commenced with a vibrant march of nurses and midwives through Nyakibale Municipal Council to Rukungiri Stadium. Though unable to attend in person, H.E. Yoweri Museveni, the President of Uganda, was represented by Hon. Gen. Jessica Alupo as the chief guest.
During the event, nurses were applauded for their outstanding work and significant contributions to the healthcare sector. A special acknowledgement goes to the administration of UVRI for sponsoring the participation of nurses in this year's International Nurses Day celebration.
