Every 20th of August 2023, Uganda joins the rest of the world in commemoration of the world Mosquito Day. This day is set aside to recognise the momentous discovery of the link between humans, malaria and mosquitoes by a British doctor Sir Ronald Ross in 1897. Uganda is marking the World Mosquito Day to raise awarenenss about the dangers of malaria carrying mosquitoes and ongoing efforts in the fight against the world's deadliest creture. 

Uganda also wishes to highlight changing mosquito behavior, mosquito species composition, invasive species and the role of secondary mosquito vectors in malaria transmission. 

This year's World Mosquito Day is commemorated under the National Theme; '' Prevent the Bite'' and the slogan our collective rsponsibility. The theme is premised on the current malaria situation; the country is grappling with a protracted malaria epidemic several districts acrosss the country that has led to reversal of malaria control gains. Its against this background that the ministry of Health's National Malaria Control Programme and malaria partners have organised a Wolrd Mosquito Day commemoration event slated to take place at the Entebbe Mayor's Gardens from 8am-2pm on Tuesday 22nd August 2023. The commemoration will be officiated by the guest of honor Hon. Minister of Health , Dr Jane Aceng. 

Addressing this protracted epidemic requires not only clinical innovation but also a deeper structural understanding of how unexpected health crises trigger sudden economic strains on individual households.
