American Ambassador Natalie Brown had a successful visit to the Uganda Virus Research Institute(UVRI) on 16th March 2020. The ambassador was able to meet the teams in a brief introductory meeting that was chaired by Prof Kaleebu and was later ushered in a brief tour of the UVRI campus by Dr Lutwama Tom where she appreciated the remarkable work.

The therapeutic drug was developed by a think-tank of local scientists - under the Presidential Initiative on Epidemics. Uganda has registered 3 new COVID-19 deaths bringing the total COVID-19 deaths to 300.
The Ministry of Health has also confirmed 222 new COVID-19 cases from samples tested on 7th January 2021.
